NASCAR, SPEED CHANNEL ANNOUNCE 2003 REGIONAL RACING COVERAGE23 Winston West Series, Busch North Series races to be carried on SPEED Channel
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (January 29, 2003)
– NASCAR and SPEED Channel have announced the 2003 broadcast schedule for NASCAR’s newly christened Grand National Division, which includes the Busch North Series and Winston West Series. Twenty-three Grand National Division races will air as part of the network’s "NASCAR TV" programming block, including 11 Winston West Series events and 12 Busch North Series events. The races will be shown on a tape-delayed basis, on Monday evenings and Saturday mornings throughout the season."The Grand National Division is NASCAR’s top training ground for up-and-coming drivers and we’re excited that fans nationwide have the opportunity to watch them compete on SPEED Channel," said Paul Brooks, NASCAR’s vice president of broadcasting. "The Busch North Series and Winston West Series offer both exciting short track action and fast-paced superspeedway events, so fans will have plenty of action to follow throughout the year."
The first broadcast in 2003 will be the Winston West Series’ season opener from Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway, which will be shown Monday, March 3. The May 9 Busch North Series "150" from Stafford (Conn.) Motor Speedway will be shown Monday, May 12.
"As NASCAR TV on SPEED Channel evolves, I think it is important to look for ways to highlight all the products NASCAR puts on the race track," said SPEED Channel President Jim Liberatore. "In packaging two popular series into the new Grand National Division, I think NASCAR has put together an attractive package and SPEED is excited to be able to deliver it to our viewers."
SPEED Channel, the fastest growing sports cable network in the U.S., has added nearly nine million households in the past year and is now seen in more than 60 million homes in North America. Fox Cable Networks Group acquired SPEED Channel in July 2001.
