NASCAR GRAND NATIONAL DIVISION, WINSTON WEST SERIES
POST-RACE NOTES – TRI-CITY

Ø Victory first time out Jason Jefferson (No. 96 Simmonson Automotive Pontiac) won the NAPA 150, his debut race in the NASCAR Grand National Division, Winston West Series. While not very common, this special achievement has been accomplished by various drivers in the 49-year history of the series. Roger Penske was among the drivers to visit victory lane in their first start in the series. The most recent was C.T. Hellmund.

Ø Another new face Also making an impressive debut in the series at Tri-City Raceway was Brandon Riehl (No. 12 Dan Obrist Recycling Chevrolet), who finished sixth.

Ø On the charge Scott Gaylord (No. 00 Oliver Gravity Separators Chevrolet) made a steady progression to the front, especially in the closes stages of the race. He gained eight spots overall – from 11th to 3rd – to win the POWERade Power Move of the Race Award.

Ø Five races, five winners The five Winston West Series races this season have produced five different winners – Mike Duncan (No. 9 Lucas Oil Chevrolet), Jim Inglebright (No. 20 Jelly Belly/NAPA Chevrolet), Jason Jefferson (No. 97 Simmonson Automotive Pontiac), Steve Portenga (No. 77 King Taco Ford) and Ken Schrader (No. 99 Federated Auto Parts Pontiac).

Ø Five different Bud Pole winners Five different drivers have garnered Bud Pole Awards this season in the five races – Johnny Borneman (No. 8 Borneman Plastering/Red Line Oil Ford), Duncan, Inglebright, Scott Lynch (No. 08 Yerf-Dog/The Orleans Dodge) and Kevin Richards (No. 85 Monaco Enterprises/Jerry Springer Chevrolet).

Ø Streak continues By finishing 10th, Portenga managed to continue his streak of top 10 finishes. He is the only driver with a top 10 finish in all five events this season.

Ø Shuffle in standingsWith his runner-up finish, Richards moved up two positions to fifth in the championship standings. A fourth-place finish by Mark Reed (No. 3 Royal Bath & Body Products Pontiac) propelled him to ninth in the standings.
