POST-RACE NOTES - PHOENIX

SUBWAY 150, OCT. 5

 

Another first... The victory by Scott Lynch (No. 08 Yerf-Dog/Orleans Dodge) in the Subway 150 at Phoenix International Raceway marked his fourth career series win. Lynch was the first repeat winner this season and now becomes the first driver with three victories in 2003.


Good education
...
Lynch did not win a race until the midway point of the season . about the same time he completed his college studies at the University of Utah.


Another Bud Pole
...
Lynch won the Bud Pole Award at Phoenix to go along with the one he won there in the season opener in February. He also set the fast-mark in qualifying at Irwindale - to give him three career poles.


Winning from pole position
...
The Bud Pole winner has gone on to win the race in six of the 11 races so far this season. The feat was only accomplished three times in all of 2002.


Different PIR winner
...
Fifteen series visits to Phoenix International Raceway have produced 12 different winners.


Streak continues
...
Steve Portenga (No. 77 Smart & Final/King Taco Ford) continued his streak of top 10 finishes this year, with a runner-up finish at PIR. He is the only driver to finish in the top 10 in all 11 races this season.


Duncan hot too
...
Mike Duncan (No. 9 Lucas Oil Chevrolet) also has a string of top 10 finishes. His third-place finish at Phoenix gave him 10 consecutive top-10 finishes this season.


Out front at PIR
...
Kevin Richards (No. 85 Monaco Enterprises/Jerry Springer Chevrolet) led the most laps at Phoenix, running out front for 95 of the 150.


More Power
...
Scott Gaylord (No. 00 Oliver Gravity Separators/Denver Seminary Chevrolet) gained the most positions at PIR, starting 14th and finishing 6th, to win the POWERade Power Move of the Race Award. It was the fourth time this year that Gaylord has taken the award home.
