NASCAR GRAND NATIONAL DIVISION, WINSTON WEST SERIES
POST-RACE NOTES – MONROE

Return to victory lane … The victory by Mark Reed (No. 3 Royal Bath & Body Products Pontiac) in the Coors Light 200 presented by NAPA and Albertsons was his second career win. Reed competed in 19 series races between his first win on March 1, 2001 and the victory at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Wash.

Owner points … Reed’s victory boosted car owner Christina Adair into the lead in the championship standings among series car owners. With 948 points, she holds a 31-point margin over Joe Nava with 917 points. Reed missed the season opener, in which Jimmy Kitchens drove the Adair Motorsports entry.

Biggest move … Dan Obrist (No. 12 Dan Obrist Recycling Chevrolet) advanced from 20th on the starting grid to finish 12th at Monroe and win the POWERade Power Move of the Race Award.

And then there were six … The six Winston West Series races this season have resulted in six different race winners.

Multiple Bud Poles … Kevin Richards (No. 85 Monaco Enterprises/Jerry Springer Chevrolet) became the first driver to win more than one Bud Pole Award this season. After winning his first career Bud Pole Award a week ago in his 74th series start, Richards notched his second consecutive fast-time honor at Monroe.

Another podium finish … Scott Gaylord (No. 00 Oliver Gravity Separators/Denver Seminary Chevrolet) crossed the finish line in third at Monroe to garner his second consecutive podium finish.

Streak continues … Steve Portenga (No. 77 Top Foods/King Taco Ford) finished ninth at Evergreen Speedway, to continue his string of top 10 finishes in every race this year.

Shuffle in standings … The finish at Monroe shuffled the championship standings among the top 10. Two drivers gained a couple of spots, with Mike Duncan (No. 9 Lucas Oil Chevrolet) moving to second in the point standings and Gaylord moving up to fourth. Two drivers moved up on spot, with Johnny Borneman (No. 8 Borneman Plastering/Red Line Oil Ford) taking over sixth in the standings and Reed moving to eighth.

Change in TV time … This Evergreen Speedway event is scheduled to air on the SPEED Channel cable network at 9 a.m. ET on Saturday, July 12, rather than the 10 a.m. originally announced.
