September 20, 2003 Douglas County Speedway, Post-Race Notes

For Immediate Release

NASCAR GRAND NATIONAL DIVISION, WINSTON WEST SERIES
POST-RACE NOTES – ROSEBURG
NAPA 200 Presented by NAPA Belts & Hose, Sept. 20

Wire-to-wire win … Austin Cameron (No. 16 NAPA/NAPA Belts & Hose Chevrolet) led all 200 laps of competition at Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, Ore. It was his eighth career victory, but his first wire-to-wire win in the series. The last driver to score a wire-to-wire win was Johnny Borneman (No. 8 Borneman Plastering/Red Line Oil Ford) at Stockton last year.

Another Bud Pole … Cameron won the Bud Pole Award at Roseburg, his third consecutive this season and the 11th of his career. Despite missing four races this year, his three Bud Poles top all competitors.

Rookie out front … The third-place finish at Roseburg by series rookie Scott Lynch (No. 08 Yerf-Dog/The Orleans Dodge) vaulted him into the lead in the chase for the championship. He came into the event trailing by 13 points and left Oregon with an 18-point advantage.

Change of fortune … Jim Inglebright (No. 20 Jelly Belly/NAPA Chevrolet) may have finally turned his luck around this season. After scoring podium finishes in the first two races, he failed to get a top-five finish until going to Roseburg – where he came home fourth.

Another career best finish … Gene Woods (No. 7 Auto Trader Magazine/CNWB.com Dodge) finished fifth at Roseburg to equal the career-best finish he had earlier this year at The Bullring in Las Vegas. Woods also won the POWERade Power Move of the Race Award at Roseburg for advancing the most positions, an award which he also won at Las Vegas.

Another top 10 finish … Despite problems at Roseburg, Steve Portenga (No. 77 Thunderbird Market/King Taco/Diane’s Foods Ford) managed to come home with a 10-place finish – continuing his string of consecutive top 10s. In fact, he is the only driver this year to finish in the top 10 in all 10 races.

Consistent finishes … After encountering problems in the season-opener, Mike Duncan (No. 9 Lucas Oil Chevrolet) has put together a string of nine straight top-10 finishes.

First time out … Dirk Kruiswyk (No. 34 NAPA of Redmond & Issaquah Chevrolet) and Steve Schaefer (No. 33 FirstLine Chevrolet) each made a successful series debut at Roseburg. Kruiswyk finished 11th, while Schaefer finished 12th.
